I can't believe next week is already the fourth of July. Summer always seems to sneak up on me and before I know it, it's half over and the days start getting shorter. Lately I've been trying to soak up this season and appreciate all the best things that Virginia and summer time have to offer. Check out some of the things I've been loving lately!
First up, this Dark Chocolate Covered Mango from Costco. They were handing out samples of this a few weeks ago and I knew I had to try it. Dark chocolate and dried mango are two of my favorite snacks so finding them combined into one perfect snack was really exciting. It may seem like a weird combo at first but it is so so good. Such a great summer snack!
Evening jogs and walks. For a long time I was an avid early morning exerciser. But after several years of consistent 5 days/week, I found myself dreading it each morning. That was a pretty clear indicator to me that something needed to change, so I started doing workouts later in the day, opting for more sleep (more on this in a future blog post). I still enjoy the occasional early workout, but for now this current routine is working better for me. I've been taking an evening run or walk a few times a week through downtown. It's been an awesome way to spend time outdoors and move around a little at the end of the day.
Lunches at home. I am so fortunate to be working a job with a lot of flexibility. I am able to walk home from work and enjoy a "real" lunch at home. I'm not a huge fan of packing my lunch in the first place so it's been great to have extra time to throw together a more substantial mid day meal and enjoy my afternoon at home.
Relaxing weekends. This time last year I was finishing up my internship and everything felt very go, go, go. There wasn't a whole lot of time for relaxation with assignments, rotations and studying for the RD exam. This year has been much more laid back and I'm loving the free time on my weekends spending time with friends.
Listening to these books. I love to read but I find it so difficult to actually sit down and read if I'm not at the beach. Audiobooks have been my main go-to the past few years, plus they're perfect for a long road trip and the work commute! I love that I'm able to get things done and still get through a good book.
